Kyle's letters/journals to me

P-Day!! July 30, 07
I bought 2 new Sulus today! I now have three. I love those things. To bad you can’t really wear them in America. Well you could but people would defiantly look at you funny. I will wear them around the house when I get home. I also got my haircut today. That’s about the only thing that is cheap in Fiji. $2 wow! A member cuts our hair, I felt bad for only having to pay $2 so I gave him $5! I think he was pretty surprised. We taught 1 lesson to the Bola family. They have 3 children that are not baptized yet. Save, Una, and Vani. We committed them to memorize the 1st A of last week! I was surprised they all did. Wee taught them about Heavenly Father, families, and how to pray. Wee committed them to pray. I think they will, they had it down pretty pat after we quizzed them a few times.

Today we had companion exchanges. This is my second exchange. I’m with an Elder that’s a native. His last name is Prasad. lol I said that kinda funny. I taught 4 lessons today and gave 3 blessings. I’ve been surprised how many times I have had to give blessings. A lot of blessings! We also had to others with us today. One a soon to be missionary named Anthony, the other a RM who is the ward missionary. It was nice to have them with us today we could cover more ground. I’m learning a lot, I’m getting to were I have a lot to pull from in my teaching, at least in my English teaching. The Fijian part will come though. It rained a lot today! YA! I love it when it rains, but it’s funny when it rains here, you don’t notice that before rain smell much, I don’t know why.

Hey Babe, Aug. 1st
The beginning of today was not the greatest. I’m on exchanges with one of my zone leaders. He seems to be trying to take advantage of me in every way he can. He’s very lazy and he knows I am new. He has already got me to buy $7.45 of milk for him. I wouldn’t have done it save the fat that I new the ward missionaries didn’t east breakfast and there is not much for food in the zone leaders house. Turned out there was plenty of food, and he just didn’t want to spend his own money on milk so he got me to do it. After that I had my guard up all day. He didn’t take advantage of me much after that save something’s I couldn’t fight just because he was the zone leader. When exchanges were over I told my companion, he was pretty upset but he new I was in a bind and was having to pick my battles.

Fortunately our lessons went well today. We dove a lot and our back up plans all failed but the end of the day was a lot nicer, because of our lessons we got in late tonight and I need to go to sleep, I’m sorry to say that a lot, I would really love to stay up and write to you all night but that’s not being obedient. I love you honey. Oh! 4 people stopped me today just to tell me how good I looked in my Sulu.  How funny! But it made me feel good. I miss you babe! Kyle

Hey sweetie,
I love you….Wow! My companion is eating cassava and tuna fish. Its really grows! I swear he could eat anything, speaking of Cassava we worked in a little Cassava farm today. Okay, your wondering what is Cassava. Well it’s a root that you can eat. It’s a very starchy food. It looks like a skinned potato but tastes nothing like it. Anyway in order to plant Cassava you take a Cassava tree and just plant its branches in the ground. So imagine grated dirt and sticks popen out of the ground everywhere. Then you just leave it there. That’s the best farm in the world if you asked me. You don’t’ even half to water it. Then when the trees become sticks lol!  I mean then when the sticks become trees you chop the tree down use it for fire wood then dig up the roots. Wash all the dirt away from your roots that u pulled up from the ground, throw them in the hot water, let um boil, then grub time. So we did the digging up the roots part today. It was a good workin experience. I was very tired after. Hey babe, guess what, I love you. Lol! “I know size can be daunting, but I love you”! I’m going to remember that quote forever! I miss you, feels like I have been here forever. Truth is I have only been here a little more then 2 weeks. If these months get any slower I might actually learn this language by the end of 2 years. Wow, I’m tired. Well I’m going to get off to bed. Love ya

Hi cutie, we got in late tonight, I don’t have much time to write. I saw my MTC teacher Brother Romnei today. I forgot he was taking a vacation to Fiji with his parents. Nadi were I am serving was his first area too. He wanted to show his parents where he served first, we were both very glad to see each other. We had lunch at a neat Fijian Pizza place, its defiantly not very good pizza but it was so nice to visit, when we left if kinda felt like leaving my family at the MTC, I felt a little sad, but it was worth it to see him.

Hey honey,
I saw the most beautiful sun set today. Ratu Necani is one of the recent converts we teach. He is a farmer like most Fijians. He lives in a small shake, him and his family, but he also has a farm high on top of a big hill, and he has a small house made of bamboo sticks and hey. Its really warn and kina cute. Its only got one room but its pretty neat. Plus he built it with h8is bare hands. Anyway we got to sit on top of this big hill with a small bamboo house and watch the sunset. Its so pretty, and right before the bright yellow sun ducks below the water, for a quick second you see it turn white. It is really cool!

The language is still slow, but what can I expect, I haven’t even been here 3 weeks yet, it will come. I miss you, I love you, and I’m praying for you. I hope I hear from you soon. I sure hope so!
Love Kyle

Tonight the stars are so bright babe! They are always really bright but they are especially bright tonight! They must be shinning for you tonight. I miss you babe. Today I was playing with one of our new investigators daughters. I think she is about four. She had a new toy, it was a little red light, and she loved it. I would hide it and she would try and find it. We had a lot of un playing with each other even though we couldn’t understand one another when we spoke. Anyway I hid her light in my pocket and forgot about it, when we left she started crying. I didn’t know why, as we were leaving he dad yelled “elder brooksby, do you have the light?” I felt so bad. I quickly gave it back, I said sorry the only way I new how in Fijian. I still feel bad about it. So I have one of those flash lights you shake and the light charges, I’m going to give it to her I feel so bad. Besides it would be very useful for tem. They don’t have money to buy batteries so it would help them I’m sure!

I have been called to serve in the Chicago Illinois North Mission! I am going to enter the MTC on September 12th. I am so excited and yet nervous because it is coming up so soon. I am feeling a little unprepared but I'm sure with the Lords help I'll be just fine. I am going to be speaking in Church on the 26th. Anyone who would like to come is more then welcome. We will have a big lunch after church at either my sister’s house or my parent’s home. If you would like to come and need a place to stay feel free to call me at 208-739-8062 and then arrangements can be made. I went through the temple this last Thursday night. It was amazing. The spirit that was there was incredible. I had five of my siblings and their spouses there with me and of course my two incredible parents. I'll never forget that night. We all went out to eat at Olive Garden afterwards which was also a lot of fun. I just hope that when I get back from my mission that all of my family will be able to make it to the temple together. I can't think of any better place then the temple to be with your family. I love you all and thank you for your wonderful support.

Only three more major steps and then I will be on my mission! I had my Stake President interview today, and he said he would send off my papers tonight. So the only things left are getting my call, entering the temple, and preparing/waiting for the day!

I have all my mission paper work done now, and all I have left to do is the last few interviews. This is the picture that I sent in with my paper work. Hopefully the next blog I post I will be able to say that everything is on its way or even... I have the call!
